Immy variously describes his sound as “Afrodelik” and “lo-fi highlife" and it is a synthesis of his Ghanaian roots and his family’s musical traditions with his own explorations as a 21st century troubadour in the vein of Rodriguez or Mano Chao.
Deeply influenced by 70s Ghanaian artists like Basa Basa and Ebo Taylor, the song carries all the hallmarks of Highlife of that era: bouncy, infectious drums and bass, group vocals, analog synth leads and hectic percussion, but it was written in a nascent hippy commune in the bush near Bells Beach in the 21st century, originally as a goodbye poem to a close friend who was leaving on an adventure
His debut LP 'LO-LIFE!' was live-tracked with an all-star band, featuring members of Surprise Chef, Karate Boogaloo and The Senegambian Jazz Band and stars Immy’s father Kojo Noah Owusu on percussion."
