Sharon Jones has had a tough few years. Acclaimed film maker Barbara Kopple has documented Jones'battle with cancer in this doco, debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

Directed by two-time Academy Award winner Barbara Kopple, Miss Sharon Jones will focus on the modern soul legend’s perseverance through pancreatic cancer, cancelled tour dates, album delays and medical treatment.

Jones was diagnosed with cancer in June 2013, a setback she ultimately overcame as she returned to live touring in November of that year. Soon after, her sixth LP Give The People What They Want was released to wide critical acclaim.

The new film was officially announced Monday in a posting by a just-established official Facebook page

Jones posted a message regarding the film on her Facebook page, stating:
"I am very excited that my film is going to premiere at the TIFF, one of the biggest film festivals in the world! I am so grateful to Cabin Creek Films and Academy Award winning director Barbara Kopple for capturing my life and can't wait to share the love that went into making the film with my fans."
