Real Groove posted a link to a new demo from PMoney and Scribe, with a brief review. Scribe responds via Twitter... full story at Real Groove's blog here.
It's pathetic really, in the true sense of the word. This is one reason why it's hard to have a critical (not necessarily meaning 'negative') dialogue here about music or other aspects of culture in Aotearoa/New Zealand. The Real Groove review is so tame and the 'artiste' is getting so bent out of shape. The Crusader is acting like his 11th century namesakes. In NZ, in the music sphere. Everything has to be affirmative or else. Either people are too polite, too taciturn or they want to punch you in the face if you don't like their work. Because AKL and NZ are so small no one wants to put their head up and say how mediocre a lot of shit is. The inverse of the cultural cringe is a situation in which everything Kiwi is bigged up to the max. A healthy culture needs its critics. Thanks for your track Pete. Much better than this microwaved demo.
