Via Banished Music: "When it comes to the soul greats alive today, there is one name that towers head, shoulders, and impossibly immaculate hair above the rest… Mister Lee Fields.
Banished Music and Strange News Touring are ecstatic to announce that Fields and his untouchable band are heading back to New Zealand for the first time in five long years. Catch this raw and soulful, funky and heartfelt performance, Sunday December the 10th in the hallowed hall of the Hollywood Avondale.
Across twenty albums, over forty singles, and a touring schedule that would make artists half his quiver in their boots, Lee Fields has proved his staying power again and again. His work has been sampled by the likes of J. Cole, Travis Scott, Rick Ross, and A$ap Rocky.
Finding early inspiration in the music and the moves of funk legend James Brown, Fields soon earned the nickname “Little J.B.” for the vocal and physical gymnastics that were a convincing match for those of his hero. The first Lee Fields single landed in 1969, kickstarting a career that has seen him work with everyone from Kool & The Gang to French house DJ Martin Solveig, El Michels Affair to Sharon Jones. Since returning to the studio in the 1990s, he has worked with labels such as Big Crown, Truth & Soul, Ace Records.
Now, Lee Fields is nestled back in at his spiritual home of Daptone Records. Here to play songs from throughout his storied career, and on the back of the 2022 Daptone album and instant classic Sentimental Fool, as well as slow burning scorcher of a new single Waiting On The Sidelines, don’t you dare miss Lee Fields and his formidably funky band at Hollywood Avondale this December.
“I feel like this album depicts me as the full character that I am. I’m all about emotions… On this record I go deeper than I’ve ever gone.” – Lee Fields
