Shirley Davis & The Silverbacks new single, album

From Madrid's Lovemonk Records, some well groovy soul....

“Stay Firm” is the new video / single taken from Shirley Davis & The Silverbacks' third album Keep On Keepin’ On dropping in March on Lovemonk Records.

In it, Davis makes a powerful statement, singing from the heart and asking for patience and resilience in the face of adversity. This is soul music, deeply rooted in the past but looking straight into the future.

Born in London to Jamaican parents, Shirley moved to Australia when she married at 16 and stayed there for many years, collaborating with various record labels, and becoming a sought-after backup singer for all the major international soul acts that were touring down under.

She joined the Grand WaZoo band and became a singer for Wilson Pickett, maintained a close friendship with the great Marva Withney, and recorded a single with the spectacular Japanese band Osaka Monaurail. She collaborated with various record labels, most notably on the dance single “I Want to Live” by Deepface, which reached number 1 on the Australian charts.

Shortly after returning to Europe, Shirley was encouraged to keep singing by the late great Sharon Jones, who invited her on stage at one of her shows with The Dap-Kings in Madrid. Davis captivated the audience, as well as Tucxone Records, who were in attendance, and immediately invited her to record with The Silverbacks, their house band.

The rest is history, Shirley & The Silverbacks recorded their debut album Black Rose in 2016, winning “best international act” at the Pop-Eye Awards, and Wishes & Wants in 2018, recorded after Davis spent months in the hospital following a viral infection that left her paralysed and in a coma. But she recovered, and headed right back on stage.

Third album Keep On Keepin’ On embodies the best of the modern soul tradition, while showcasing a unique voice in its growing canon. Conjuring classic soul and funk sounds of the 1960s and ‘70s, as well as the mighty Sharon Jones – whose last words to Davis provide the album title — Shirley Davis & The Silverbacks‘ latest full-length is a highly personal tale of empowerment and self-realisation, served up without losing any groovyness."

‘Keep On Keepin’ On’ out on LP, CD & Digital on March 23rd 2022 via Lovemonk Records.
